Your Phone Can Be Your Angel

A volunteer search and rescue team in Haines found two snowboarders who got lost in a gully while descending Mount Ripinski Saturday evening.

Alaska State Troopers said in a dispatch that Patrick Pritchard, 31, and Erin Kelly, 32, both of Maine, were located uninjured after a two-and-a-half hour search by volunteers.
According to an online dispatch from troopers, the incident began when Alaska State
Troopers received a report of two snowboarders lost in a gully on the mountain at about 5:02 p.m. Saturday. Mount Ripinski is located about two miles northeast of downtown Haines.
Alaska State Troopers contacted Pritchard on his cell phone, and Pritchard told troopers that they could see the lights from town, but they were unsure of their exact location.

This man used Craigslist to lead police to his stolen phone and the thief

If you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of having your phone stolen, have a good look at Craigslist after reporting it to the police; because not only could your phone be for sale on the site, the thief could be the one selling it. That’s what happened to an unnamed man in New Orleans recently, prompting the police to issue a warning to criminals, saying they may become victims themselves when trying to sell stolen property on the website.

Reported by local news source nola.com, the unlucky smartphone owner had put his device down while scanning items at a self-service checkout, only to find out it had been picked up by someone else when he went to retrieve it.

An i for an i: Lost phones, tablets leading to rise of arrests for not returning them

When the North Naples woman returned to her car, her iPhone was gone.
She looked around, but just couldn't find it. So she pulled out her iPad and activated the "Find My iPhone" tracking program.
To her surprise, her phone was moving. She watched on a map as her iPhone headed west on Pine Ridge Road, then stopped at a Publix. She drove there, pulled in beside the targeted car and activated an alarm on her cellphone, confirming it was inside the other car.
She got her iPhone back that day. The woman who found and kept it went to jail.

PhoneAngel.com - How to Find Lost Cell Phone

Good article on why you should return a lost cell phone.

"If you happen to find an expensive smartphone on the street, youll probably wonder what to do with it. In short: return it! Don’t allow yourself to get attached! Your mission is to re-unite the phone with its rightful owner. It’s the right thing to do, not just because it’s what you would want somebody to do if they found your fancy phone. And it’s what I did.
The other day I found an iPhone on the street. It wasn’t hard to reach the owner. Lucky for me, the phone wasn’t locked and it contained plenty of contacts and recent messages. Within minutes, I was in touch with the owner’s mom and a friend. Less than half an hour later, the owner – who turned out to be just a kid – had his phone back. He said he didn’t even realize it was missing. Returning a lost phone is not always that easy, but that’s no excuse.
In case you are still contemplating how to handle such a situation, let me nudge you into the right direction."

Finally! A win for the Dolphins! Fortunately for Miami Heat dancer Teresa Cee, it was an ocean-going dolphin and not a Miami Dolphins player ---given the team's recent performance -- that made the assist when she lost her cellphone.
Cee's cellphone went overboard into the ocean off the Bahamas during a recent excursion to shoot the Heat Dancers' annual calendar.
Cacique, a dolphin who was entertaining the dancers, apparently spotted the phone on the ocean floor and fetched it for Cee, who was said to be "tickled" by the happy outcome.

How the Government Surveils Cellphones: A Primer
Last week, the state of cellphone tracking became slightly more confusing. The U.S. Department of Justice announced that, except in emergency situations, federal agents would now seek warrants before using "Stingrays." Stingrays are devices that mimic cellphone towers and can pinpoint a phone’s physical location or record which number they’re calling.

For people who follow the issue closely, like the ACLU, the news was welcome if limited. But for many, it made the situation around cellphone surveillance even trickier than it was before. How many different ways can the government surveil cellphones? What can each method do? Here’s a primer.

If law enforcement wants to surveil your cellphone, they have two ways to do it. They can do it through a phone company; or they can do it directly, using a device like a Stingray.

Let’s talk about the first way. If the government goes through the phone company, they probably do it by seeking cell-site location information, or CSLI. CSLI is created whenever a cellphone talks to a cell tower: It’s a record of towers that a cellphone pinged, what direction the cellphone’s ping came from, and what time the ping came.

Consider this........

What price would you pay to safeguard your personal information? Although we can't guarantee your personal information would be 100% protected we do our best to make sure your phone along with all the information is returned to you. Many of us forget to back up our devices or save our information on the cloud so getting your phone returned with all your digital memories is priceless.

Why not just insure your phone?
On average you would have to pay a deductible fee of $175-200 from any of the top phone carriers plus monthly fees that can add up over the course of your phones life.

"If anyone is promising you "no deductible" on your phone insurance claims, they're probably stretching the truth. A lot. Most such services actually hide behind the term "administrative fee" (for example, ProtectCell). Yes, there's no deductible as part of your plan as far as the wording of the policy is concerned, but oh wait, there is a $150 "administrative fee" you're going to have to pay if you make a claim. And it goes up to $200 if you make a second or third claim. You know, for all those expenses incurred administering your policy. Right”- www.androidpolice.com/2013/10/11/a-detailed-guide-to-phone-insurance-in-the-us-who-has-the-best-coverage-and-is-it-even-worth-it/

One of the biggest 3rd third party company’s doesn't even cover theft or loss phones. You would think that losing your phone is a possibility; so why not cover it? Not to mention all the fine print that you have to read to see what the policy actually covers.

With PhoneAngel you only pay for what you receive, there's no " just in case fee". Planning ahead with PhoneAngel is cost saving and rewarding. You are entitled to what's yours and we're here to maintain that balance.
